Arase Asks Police to Activate Its Platform for Tracking Phones of Kidnappers Demanding Ransom
Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase has directed the police force to activate their platform for tracking of kidnappers and other criminals demanding money for ransom.
The former inspector general of police said it was shameful for the police force that criminal elements are using mobile phones to demand for ransom and not facing the consequence of the crime.
He spoke on the issue on Thursday, while addressing personnel of the police national cybercrime center, during his visit to the center in Abuja.
Arase said the phone tracking platform that was used while he was in office as the police IGP in 2015 was still available at the force headquarters.
He asked force headquarters to pay the subscription for the platform by allocating votes for it in their budget.

The police service commission chairman recalled that the platform was used while he was in office to rescue an elder statement, Chief Olu Falae in 2015, when he was kidnapped at his farm in Akure, the Ondo state capital in 2015.
Arase said the phone tracker was used to track the elder statesman and his abductors before he was rescued.
We don’t just go out to arrest suspects. We do our profiling and look at facts, figures, and available evidence before making an arrest.
The motive of cyber criminals is to make money, so what we do is to work with banks and other financial institutions to get information on their financial flows.
After that, we do our profiling before going after the suspects and once we get the suspects, it means we are ready for prosecution, he said.
