Former super eagles striker Joseph Akpala has expressed his ambition to coach one of Belgium’s most illustrious football clubs, Club Brugge,

Akpala is currently engaged as an assistant coach with KV Kortrijk, following his near two-decade-long active playing career.

Akpala’s history with Club Brugge, where he once graced the pitch and became a beloved figure among fans, underpins his affinity for the club.

During his tenure, he achieved significant success, amassing an impressive tally of 57 goals in 167 appearances across various competitions.

The 2008 Belgian first division top scorer nurtures an unmistakable yearning to return to the club, albeit without labeling it a dream.

Akpala relishes the Belgian experience, stating that Belgium is his second homeland.

The 36-year-old is well-acquainted with the Belgian League having enjoyed spells at Club Brugge, Sporting Charleroi and KV Oostende.

His wealth of experience appears to be a plus for him on the job pending the appointment of a substantive manager.

Akpala scored 90 goals in 286 appearances during his playing spell in Belgium.

He quit football in 2021 after a brief spell with the Romanian second division club, Dinamo Bucharest.
