FG Votes N5b in its 2023 Supplementary Budget, for the Reconstruction of Two Roads in Ogun State

Federal Government has voted N5 billion in its 2023 supplementary budget, for the reconstruction of two roads in Ogun State.

N2 billion is voted for the Sagamu-Ore Expressway in Ogun East, and Ota-Idiroko in the Ogun West.

Also, provisions were made for the takeoff of the construction of the proposed Lagos-Abuja super highway, and Lagos-Port Harcourt-Calabar coastal road project, which would pass through Ogun State.

A provision of N2 billion was made for the Lagos-Abuja road, and N500 million for the Lagos-Calabar coastal road projects, as federal government’s contribution to the projects to be constructed under the public-private partnership model.

According to the document, the N58 billion allocated for the construction of new road projects across the nation is a portion of the N300 billion the Federal Government appropriated to the Federal Ministry of Works in the 2023 supplementary budget.

The projects slated for construction under a PPP arrangement encompass significant infrastructural developments, prominently featuring the Abuja-Lagos superhighway and the Lagos-Port Harcourt – Cross River superhighway.

However, when dissecting the financial contributions, a clear distinction emerges. For the Abuja-Lagos superhighway, the federal government is set to allocate N2 billion, whereas, for the Lagos-Port Harcourt – Cross River superhighway project, the designated contribution is N500 million.

Turning attention to the southeastern zone, a host of new major road construction projects take center stage. Among them are the dualization of the Amiobia-Ekwulobia-Mokwa road (N10 billion), the rehabilitation of Ugep – Abaomege – Okposi road (N2.5 billion), and the rehabilitation and dualization of Enugu – Abakaliki – Ogoja road (N2.5 billion).

Venturing into the southwestern region, a cluster of projects comes to the forefront, including the dualization of Akure – Ilesha road (N2.5 billion), the construction of 20km Inner and Township intervention roads in Coket – Aguda/Ilire/Ikate/Surulere area (N2.5 billion), and the construction of Ore – Shagamu road (N2 billion).

Further projects in the southwestern zone encompass the construction of Ayegun – Oleyo road (N1.5 billion), the construction of 13km Ofin Oreta road in Ikorodu (N2 billion), and the construction of Ota – Idi-Iroko road (N3 billion).

Extending the scope, additional road construction projects are outlined, such as the construction of the Kano Northern Bypass in Kano (N2.5 billion), the rehabilitation of failed sections of the East-West road (N2.5 billion), the reconstruction of the Lokoja – Abuja road (N2.5 billion), the construction of the Buruku bridge in River Benue (N2 billion), and the construction of Bauchi-Gombe road (N2.5 billion).

The roster of new road construction projects is rounded off by the Bida – Zingiru road (N2 billion), Obubara in Ebonyi – Cross River state road (N3 billion), and the Malando – Ngaski Wara road (N8 billion).
