FG Commends Dangote Group for its Contributions to Diversifying Nigeria’s Economy

Federal Government has commended the leading roles being played by the Dangote group to complement its efforts to diversify the Nigeria’s economy.

Also, it commends the dedication of the group to the promotion of best practices in all its operations.

Environment Minister, Dr. Ishaq Salako, made the remarks during a familiarization visit to the Dangote Cement Plant, Ibese in Ogun state.

The visit was followed by a community engagement, preparatory to the expert panel review of the report of an environmental impact assessment carried out on coal mining at the plant.

The minister and his entourage, received by the plant management, led by the plant director, Mr. Azad Nawabuddin, said there was a need for mining operations to be done sustainably so that the environment was not adversely affected.

While speaking, Environment Commissioner, Ola Oresanya who represented by Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the Dangote group was a key driver of the Ogun state’s economy with the siting of Africa’s second biggest cement plant in the state.

Also, the commissioner said Ogun state is a beneficiary of Dangote cement presence with the amount of levies and taxes paid into the state coffer.

In his remark, the plant director said the company has been able to substantially contribute to infrastructural development programs and employment in its 17 host communities across Yewa and Ewekoro local government area.

The community engagement held after the tour of the plant by the minister saw community leaders thanking Dangote Cement for its corporate social responsibility projects in the areas.

Olu of Imasayi, Oba Kuoye Olalekan, a top monarch in Yewaland expressed his subjects’ appreciation to Dangote Cement for its development strides in the area.
