Emefiele Tendered Resignation Letter to Tinubu since August, Says Report

The detained suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has reportedly resigned his appointment.

Reuters News Agency says he tendered his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu since last month.

Initially, the report said Emefiele submitted the resignation letter to the Department of State Security (DSS) which is investigating him.

DSS was said to have rejected the resignation, directing him to forward it to the president.

President Tinubu suspended Emefiele last June 9, 2023 and was immediately arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS) which had arraigned him before a court for an alleged abuse of office.

Tinubu had since appointed CBN Deputy Governor, Folashodun Sonubi as the acting CBN governor.

Last Friday, Tinubu appointed Yemi Cardoso as the new CBN governor, subjected to the confirmation of the senate.
