Eight Abducted Ekiti Pupils and Teachers, Regain Freedom after Raid on Kidnappers Hideout

The five abducted pupils and three teachers of Apostolic Faith School, Emure Ekiti in Ekiti State, have regained freedom from kidnappers.

But the driver of their school bus abducted with them was killed by the kidnappers.

The pupils and teachers were released around 1.30 A.M. on Sunday, after spending seven days in captivity.

The force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi on his X handle on Sunday morning announced the rescue of the pupils and their teachers unhurt.

A joint team of police, Amotekun, hunters, and forest security service operatives on Saturday raided the hideout of suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of the pupils and their teachers.

Adejobi commended the police, hunters, Amotekun, local vigilantes, and individuals for the rescue operations.

The nine pupils and teachers, as well as a driver, were abducted by gunmen who ambushed the school bus, conveying them from Emure Ekiti, while returning to Eporo Ekiti.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji has directed the State Health Commissioner, Dr. Oyebanji Filani to take them to the state teaching hospital, Ado Ekiti for medical treatment and post-trauma therapy.

Meanwhile, the governor also visited the rescued pupils and teachers at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, where they were receiving treatment.

The students and their teachers were brought to the hospital from Emure Ekiti by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Filani, and some ministry officials, following the governor’s directive shortly after their release.

Oyebanji, who arrived at the hospital a few hours later, had a brief interaction with each of the students and their teachers at the Accident and Emergency Ward of the hospital.

The governor was received by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Kayode Olabanji: and the lawmaker representing Emure constituency, Alhaja Mariam Ogunlade, and some government officials.
