The judge jailed the police chief, while ruling in an application filed by a former police officer, Patrick Okoli, who alleged that he was unlawfully and compulsorily retired from the Police Force.

Justice Olajuwon also ordered the force headquarters to pay N10 million to the applicant as special and general damages for the denial of his right as a senior police officer, from 1993 till date.

The judge noted that the Police Service Commission recommended the reinstatement of the applicant, but the office of the IGP failed to obey the order.
