Atiku Clarifies Different Name in His SSCE Certificate
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 Presidential Poll, Atiku Abubakar has explained why he used a different name to write his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The clarification followed allegations in the social media by critics, mostly the All Progressive Congress (APC) supporters, who accused him of forging his academic credentials.
The name in his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination reads Sadiq Abubakar, instead of Atiku Abubakar.
But Atiku, in a clarification made by his presidential campaign spokesman, Dele Momodu on his X (formally Twitter) handle, said he was still the same Atiku Abubakar who attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
According to him, he later swore to an affidavit after passing the SSCE examination to change his name from Sadiq Abubakar to Atiku Abubakar.
The PDP candidate explained that it was same name of Atiku that he used to gain admission into the University and to join the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

The Director of Strategic Communications for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Momodu explained that some members of the APC had questioned the name ‘Sadiq Abubakar’ on Atiku’s WAEC certificate as against his other credentials.
Momodu said he forwarded the accusations to the former Vice President, who also provided an answer for the discrepancy.
He said, “The APC busybodies have been bombarding me with allegations of forgery against my Principal, ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR (GCON), which I immediately forwarded to him and here is his copious response:
“’Yes I used Sadiq Abubakar to sit for my WAEC and after passing my exams I went to swear an affidavit to say I am the same person as ATIKU Abubakar. I went to ABU as Atiku Abuakar and passed my Exams as Atiku Abubakar. Interviewed as Atiku Abubakar by the Federal Civil Service Commission and hired into the Customs Service as Atiku Abubakar. So where is forgery there?’
