Anxiety Grips Ogun Cultists Community, As Cultists Continue Reprisal Killing In Abeokuta

Anxiety has gripped the cultists community in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, as renewed rivalry clashes continue, creating tension in the city.

Another suspected cultist was killed on Tuesday night at the Oke Sokori axis of the city.

Four others had earlier died in the clashes between last Thursday and Sunday across the city.

Many others sustained injuries in the shooting by hitmen of the various cult groups involved in the clashes.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, said eleven suspected cultists were picked up by police since the fresh rivalry clashes started.

Cultists involved in the clashes were members of Eye Confraternity and Alora Confraternity.

Rockcity FM gathered that most of the cultists had fled Abeokuta, or gone into hiding to avoid reprisal killings.

The fresh clashes first came to light last Thursday with the killing of the suspected leader of Eye cult group at Ijeja, creating panic in the city.

Later on Sunday and Monday, three others who are suspected members of Aye and Alora were killed by suspected cultists.

A resident who does not want his name in print said Tayo must have been trailed to the point where he was gunned down.

They must have trailed him there, but they didn’t engage in any disagreement or fight before he was shot. This is scary.

The government should quickly rise to this before things get out of hand again.

This is how they always start. The police and other security agencies should please start their work immediately.

Joshua Ukandu, the acting Police Public Relation Officer, at Ebonyi State Police Command, had said in Abakaliki that the clash was between some cult groups in the area.

According to Ukandu, there was a report of gunshots and cult members clashing on Sunday at the Oriuzor community. Unfortunately, three people were killed as a result of the incident.

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the clash, although the situation has been put under control.
