Anxiety As Tribunal Delivers Ruling on the 2023 Presidential Poll Petitions

Security has been tightened up in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), is delivering its judgement on the February 25 presidential poll today.

Top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressive Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP) are in attendance.

Mobile police officers since Tuesday had cordoned off all access road to the Tribunal.

Also, strategic locations and flashpoints in Abuja have been kept under watch by security operatives.

The judgement which is being aired live on television stations, is been delivered by a five member panel of appeal court judges.

The Judges led by Haruna Tsamani are Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Moses Ugoh, Abba Mohammed and Stephen Addah.

Candidate of The PDP, Atiku Abubakar and its Labour counterpart, Peter Obi are challenging the results of the February 25 poll awarded to the APC’s Ahmed Bola Tinubu

Also, according to the results, Tinubu scored 8.8 million; Atiku (6.9 million) and Obi (6.1 million).

As the tribunal delivered judgement, many Nigerians are looking up to the tribunal to salvage democracy and be the final hope of the electoral.

“Many people are disappointed in INEC; there is a general sense of hopelessness among the voters on the way the 2023 general election was conducted, especially that Presidential poll where people had so much hope.

“But we should be calm; I am sure the judiciary can stand up and interpret the law; Nigerians must stay calm,” U”ong Eno, the political analyst, said.
