TUC Backs Out, As NLC Organized Two Day Warning Strike Kicks Off

There has been a split within the rank of the organized Labour as a two day warning strike organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) begins today to protest the petrol subsidy removal pains.

The senior workers apex body, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) says it would not join the strike, after a meeting with federal government team on Monday in Abuja.

NLC officials boycotted the meeting convened by the Labour Minister, Simon Lalong, and focus on the last minute preparation for the strike.

But TUC National President, Comrade Festus Osifo, addressing newsmen after the Monday’s meeting with federal government team said there was no basis for a fresh strike for now.

He advised the NLC leadership to continue dialoging to address the grey areas in the Labour demands within the timeframe given to federal government.

Labour Minister, Simon Lalong, who led federal government’s delegation, said the negotiations would resume in two weeks, after the implementation of the wage award, tax exemption and allowances for federal civil servants within the period.
