Ogun Assembly Warns Councils to Stop Harassing Commercial Motorcyclists

Ogun State House of Assembly has warned the state’s 20 local governments councils to stop harassing commercial motorcycle riders, operating within their jurisdiction.

The Assembly transport committee said the House has been flooded with petitions from the motorcycle unions and riders, of the activities of miscreants claiming to be working for local governments.

The committee chairman, Oludaisi Elemide, issued the warning at a meeting with leaders of various commercial motorcyclists unions at the Assembly complex in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

He asked the councils to stop unauthorized persons from harassing okada riders under the guise of enforcing traffic regulations of the use of crash helmets.

According to Elemide, the enforcement of traffic regulation is the responsibilities of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Police and State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and not local governments.

He warned that anyone caught engaging in such illegal activities would be handed over to the police.

The Committee Chairman stressed the need to maintain peace and tranquility in all parts of the State.
