18 Passengers Burnt To Death, 12 Injured In Fatal Crash In Kano

18 passengers have been burnt to death in a fatal auto crash on Kano-Ringim highway  in Kano state, 12 others sustained various degrees of injury in the crash on Friday night at Zakarai town.

Sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ibrahim Abdullahi said, two commercial buses conveying 35 passengers, were involved in the crash. He said one of the buses burst into fire after a head on collision.

The FRSC commander blaming the crash on excessive speeding said, the burnt bodies of the passengers had been given a mass burial at the site of the crash.

Abdullahi, attributed the accident to excessive speeding, dangerous driving and overloading, which resulted in a head-on collision and the bursting into flames of one of the vehicles.

According to Abdullahi, The accident involved a total of 35 passengers in two buses, out of which 18 were burnt beyond recognition, while 12 others suffered varying degrees of serious injuries.

Ibrahim, who disclosed that the injured victims were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed General Hospital, Kano, advised motorists to avoid speeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking, dangerous driving and any infraction that could lead to road crashes.

He added that during a visit to the crash scene on Saturday, he warned motorists, particularly intercity and inter-state drivers, to desist from overloading, excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking and other traffic violations.
