A Political Economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, says presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Labor Party, and Nigeria National People’s Party (NNPP) have agreed to a mega political party, ahead of 2027.

Utomi on a television program says no name has been mentioned for the proposed mega political party.

He adds that leaders of social movements and labor movements are involved in the proposed merger talks.

Leaders of the PDP, labor, and NNPP were the runner-up in the hotly contested 2023 presidential poll.

Last week, the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said if the opposition political parties failed to come together, it would be difficult to dislodge President Tinubu and the All Progressive Congress (APC) from office in 2027.

Utomi who is a top leader in the Labor Party says the proposed mega party will chart a clear start in Nigeria’s political space since 1999.

According to him, since 1999, all the political parties have been more interested in grabbing political power but have no program for the electorate.

Somehow, they did not manage to create an alignment with the Nigerian people to improve the quality of their lives.

This is why you can see Nigeria deteriorating, becoming the poverty capital of the world, becoming the center of widespread violence.
