There is tension in Ijebu Ode, over a deadline to the chairman of the Ijebu Ode Local Government, Babatunde Emilola Gazal, over the statutory allocation from the federation account in the past two years.

However, a group calling itself ‘concerned citizens’ gave the council’s chairman a 48 hour deadline to account for the utilization of the allocation.

The group in a notice pasted around the town on Thursday morning, demanded a detailed account for the chairman.

Failure to do so, the group asked him to resign or they would organize a massive protests against him.

The chairman, who is the chairman of the state chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) stayed away from the Local Government’s secretariat on Thursday amidst tense situation in the town.

Attempts to get the reaction of the local government chairman to the development were not successful.

A few days ago, the Council Chairman had led the State Council Chairmen to apologise to Governor Abiodun, to apologise over the allegation by the suspended chairman of the claim of the Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo that Local Governments were being starved of their statutory allocation.
