TCN Blames Vandals for Collapse of National Power Grid

Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has blamed the frequent collapse of the national power grid on the activities of vandals.

The company says that 108 out of its power transmission towers, were destroyed by vandals between January 2022 and last month.

According to TCN on its X (formally Twitter) handle, the transmission towers were destroyed in Benin City, Lagos, Enugu and Kano.

It also cited the vandalization of nine transmission towers in Ogun State, near Abeokuta last May 24.

The company described the spate of stripping of its infrastructure as worrisome.

The company asked Nigerians not to expect stable power grid, because various communities are often aware of the activities of the vandals and failed to report them to the appropriate authorities.

Power distribution companies had confirmed the recent grid collapse, as they explained that it was what triggered the widespread blackout in Nigeria at the weekend.

The federal government had announced last weekend that the Nigerian Regulatory Commission and the System Operator were investigating the causes of the recurrent power grid collapse that had repeatedly led to widespread blackouts across the country.
