The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saadu Abubakar has indicted governments, military and security agencies over the serial mass killings of people across the country by terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements.

He demanded to know why government cannot be proactive and stop the killings before they happened.

The sultan also expressed concern over the failure of intelligence gathering mechanism and politicization of security issues in the country.

The sultan speaking at the closing of the national Islam vacation course in Bauchi, expressed concern over the killings of more than 100 people in communities plateau state on Christmas day.

According to him, the killings are coming as Nigerians are yet to recover from the shocking loss of about 100 people from army drone mistaken attack on Tudu Biri in Kaduna state.

The traditional ruler said as a former military officer, he was worried why military and security agencies could not be proactive through their intelligence gathering to stop attacks by the criminals before they happened.

The sultan also said it was disturbing that wanton killings by criminal elements without any concrete moves to bring the killers to justice has become a norm.

The sultan also called on Nigerians to charge all leaders at different levels to rise to the occasion, saying things were not right and anything could happen.

We call on our leaders to fear God, who will ask you what you did with your leadership here on earth, said the sultan.

In his remarks, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State appreciated visitors and participants of the programme who came from the 19 states in the northern part of the country and the FCT.
