Ogun State Clears Surroundings of Abeokuta Prison to Prevent Jailbreak

Ogun State government has embarked on moves to secure public infrastructure in Abeokuta, against threats and dangers in the state capital.

Abandoned and dilapidated structures as well as forest like growth around the custodial centre at Ibara have been cleared to discourage hoodlums and miscreants from hiding in the area.

Physical planning and urban development commissioner, Tunji Odunlami, said the clearance will also discourage other nefarious tendencies around the prison facility.

He explained that the move follows a “save-our-soul” letter received from the Nigerian Correctional Service centre at Ibara, following the recent attacks on prison facilities.

The commissioner added that his ministry also cleared all abandoned and dilapidated structures at the site of the old Ogun State secretariat at Oke Ilewo, also in Abeokuta, which has been taken over by trees and thick foliage.
