Aiyedatiwa Inaugurated as Ondo New Governor Declares Days of Morning for Akeredolu

Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa of Ondo state has declared a three day of mourning for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who died of prostate cancer in a hospital in Germany on Wednesday.

Akeredolu speaking after his inauguration ordered the national flag in all public establishments across the state to be flown at half-mast in the honor of the late governor.

The Governor also announced some appointments, including Ebenezer Adeniyan as his new Chief Press Secretary; Smart Omodubi as the special assistant on political matters and Abire Olugbenga as his special assistant on the new media.

Other appointments include Motunrayo Oyede as special assistant on photography and Temitayo Iperepolu as special assistant on domestic and government house.

Meanwhile, the Akeredolu family has said the late governor departed the world peacefully in his sleep at a hospital in Germany while undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

His son, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu junior who issued the statement on behalf of Akeredolu family said details of his burial arrangements would be announced by the family and the state government in due course.

In a solemn declaration, the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has announced a three-day period of State mourning in honour of the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, former Governor of Ondo State, who died in the early hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

This period of mourning, with fasting and prayer, takes effect from Thursday, December 28 to Saturday, December 30, 2023. Also, all national flags are to be flown at half-mast in reflection of the mood of the State for seven days.

The Governor also announced the suspension of State government ceremonies during this period of mourning.

Meanwhile, condolence registers have been opened at the Governor’s Office and the Government House in Akure, as well as State Liaison Offices in Lagos and Abuja.
