Six Killed, One Injured In Fatal Auto Crash in Ondo

Six persons have died and one injured in a fatal auto crash along Akure-Owo highway in the Ondo State capital

The accident which was recorded on Tuesday night amidst rainfall, involved a commercial bus and a truck.

The bus which was heading from Akure to Edo State was said to be attempting to overtake the truck at a sharp corner.

In the process, the bus collided with an incoming tipper truck. The drive of the bus and five of the six passengers in the bus died on the spot.

The sector commander said the accident occurred as a result of wrongful overtaking, over speeding, and loss of control.

“I wish to appeal to motorists to abide by the prescribed speed limit,” he said.

“Commercial drivers must ensure they install speed limiting device in their vehicles. Drivers should be safety conscious at all the times.

“Drivers should not overtake if it is not safe. Passengers should not only warn drivers in an event of excess speed but also report them to security agencies manning the highways.”

On September 2, two persons died, while five others sustained injuries in an auto crash that occurred along Olokuta area on the Akure-Ondo road.
