24 Passengers Die in Fresh Boat Disaster in Niger

Twenty four persons have died in a fresh boat disaster recorded in Niger state.

Search is ongoing for other passengers in the boat who were still missing.

The boat capsized at Gbayibo community in Mokwa Local Government Area.

The council chairman, Jibrin Muregi, on Sunday, said 21 corpses had so far been recovered from the river.

He said that emergency workers are still searching through the river to rescue those still in the river.

The boat was carrying passengers, including children and women from Gbajibo, Ekwa and Yakenkeiade when the accident occurred.

The accident occurred a day, after another boat capsized in Adamawa State, leaving eight persons dead, and seven others still missing.

In Another News, A family has lost two of their daughters in a building which collapsed during a heavy rainfall at Ojodu Abiodun axis of Ifo local government area of Ogun State.

The victims, a 16 year old girl and her 25 year old sister, died following the collapse of their Ayanshina family home.

Witnesses said the house caved in following a mudslide, after the heavy rain on Saturday.

Both of them were trapped in the debris of the building and had to be retrieved by neighbours.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead by doctors.
