Monday 11

On Monday 11 September 2023, we said that the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), an agency of the Federal Ministry of Education of Nigeria, said that private school owners contribute to the poor standard of education in the country by employing quacks as teachers, while accusing the private school owners of allegedly promoting quackery to maximize profit.

According to the TRCN, while a large percentage of teachers in public schools are well-trained and qualified, the same cannot be said of private schools, adding that some private school owners unleash just anybody on pupils in the name of hiring teachers.

Tuesday 12

On Tuesday 12 September 2023, we said the Foundation for Peace Professionals, also known as PeacePro, called on the Federal Government to rename the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria after historic memory, adding that the description of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones is of no political significance and should be named to reflect the desires and aspirations of the people.

PeacePro proposed that the South West region be named Oduduwa region, the North West named Arewa region, the South East renamed Biafra region, the North East named Kanem Borno region, the South-South named Niger Delta region, and the North Central named Middle Belt region.

Wednesday 13

On Wednesday 13 September 2023, we told you that the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman said that Tinubu’s administration would grant full autonomy to federal government-owned universities in the country, noting that the autonomy would allow universities to source funding through various means to enable them to meet their financial obligations.

Mamman also expressed the commitment of the president to improve the education sector’s budget by 25 percent with the right policies in place, adding that he will bridge the gaps between policy statements and the actualization of outcomes.

Thursday 14

On Thursday 14 September, 2023, we said the chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) and former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, said that vigilante organizations would be used in the community policing system because the police and other security agencies do not have the numeric strength to dominate the security spaces and fight criminality.

According to Arase, the commission should be able to key vigilante organizations into the community policing system in Nigeria as volunteers with regards to information gathering because of their presence and visibility.
