Police Kill Five Kidnappers in Gun battle in Ogun Forests, Rescue Abducted Poultry Farm Manager

Police have killed five armed kidnappers in a gun battle at a forest along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway in Ogun state.

During the gun battle, anti-kidnap squad managed to rescue unhurt a poultry manager, Tunde Onafowokan, abducted earlier on Monday from a farm in Idowa in the Odogbolu LGA.

The state police commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, in an update on the abduction said anti-kidnap squad raided the camp of the kidnappers inside the forest in Odogbolu in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the police chief, the squad killed five of the kidnappers in gun battle lasting about an hour, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

Alamutu said the policemen rescued the poultry manager abducted earlier on Monday from a farm in Idowa, unhurt.

The police squad also recovered a sword, cell phones, hard drugs and empty shells of ak-47 rifle ammunition.

The kidnappers engaged the squad in a fierce gun battle during which five of them, out of about eight, were neutralised while the rest escaped with bullet wounds.

Exhibits recovered from the dead among the kidnappers are cash sum of N1,185,070 suspected to be part of the ransom the kidnappers had collected.

He said the anti-kidnap squad is still tracing the fleeing members of the kidnap gang to effect their arrest.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the killed kidnappers had been deposited in the morgue of a hospital in the area.

The CP stated that the command has intensified efforts to apprehend all the fleeing suspects, warning that criminals intent on testing the strong resolve of the police in the state will face consequences.
