OOU Fee Hike: Students and Management, Finally Agree On New Tuition Fees

The student union government and the management of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, have reached a deal on the disputed new tuition fee for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The dispute over the new tuition fees has delayed the resumption of the institution for the new academic session.

The on-and-off negotiations started last month, after the end of the 2022/2023 academic session on December 8, 2023.

The management had raised the tuition fees for the new academic session between 120 to 197 per cent, with the N220,000 as the lowest and N585,000 as the highest for the returning students.

According to the new tuition fees agreed to between the students and management, the lowest tuition now will be N170,000 while the highest will be N380,000.

The breakthrough in the prolonged negotiations between the students and management was brokered by the Ebumawe of Ago Iwoye, who hosted both parties in his palace, a few days ago.

Other concessions granted by the management is that the payment of the new tuition fee would be made flexible in form of instalment.

Also, the N5,000 technology fee was scrapped, while the management has agreed to the resumption of physical, instead of virtual lecture, which the students opposed.

The student’s union government has asked students to resume promptly and proceed to pay the agreed tuition fees.
