Ogun To Sell Rice at Subsidized Price and Give Free Allocation to Elderly, Vulnerable and Poor

Ogun State Government is about to start the public sale of food items, including rice at affordable rate.

The poor, elderly and vulnerable people would get free allocation of the foodstuff, including rice, beans and garri.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announcing the scheme, at a stakeholder meeting on Wednesday evening in Abeokuta, said his administration has purchased 100 truckloads of rice for the takeoff of the scheme.

The trucks are expected to start offloading the rice and other items as from Thursday.

The governor explained that the rice would be on sale at the price it was before the recent sharp rise in the prices of essential commodities.

Abiodun assured that the subsidized rice would be on sale, until the exchange rate of the naira stabilizes, adding that the Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso assured him on Tuesday that the exchange rate would soon crash.

He also told the stakeholders in a meeting with President Tinubu, which convinced him that his policies are on course to reposition the Nigerian economy.

Governor Abiodun also spoke on the just announced n50 billion special intervention scheme to reduce the pains of food crisis and high inflation.

That was Governor Abiodun announcing the sale of subsidized rice to the public and free allocation to elderly, vulnerable and the poor.
