Ogun State Government Shuts Down Agro Processing Factory at Igbesa

Ogun State Government has shut down an Agro Processing Factory at Igbesa in the Ado-Odo Local Government Area for polluting the environment.

Environment Commissioner, Ola Oresanya, said the factory, supreme agro limited, was shut down, following several complaints he received from the host community.

The Commissioner said the alleged pollution was confirmed by the state environmental task force, that the factory was discharging its untreated waste water into the water bodies in the community.

According to the Commissioner, the factory ought to have installed effluent plants for the storage and treatment of its untreated waste water, before discharging into the environment.

The Commissioner said the factory would remain shut until it restore its environment back to normal, and carried out the host community along with its level of remediation.

The commissioner also commended the Igbesa Traditional Council for alerting the state government to the company’s unethical environmental practices, adding that the government would continue to provide a conducive environment for all businesses in the state.

Oresanya cautioned businesses operating in the state against malpractices while stating that the government would not tolerate any negligence in their production processes.

He noted that to be rewarded by the state government, businesses must operate in compliance with the international environmental best practices and always act honourably.
