Obasanjo Says He Is Now Too Old To Keep Quiet On National Issues

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says he is now too old to keep quiet on national issues.

Obasanjo said he could not keep quiet, especially on the fall out from the just concluded 2023 polls.

The former president speaking in Abuja on Thursday at a conference organized by Nextier and the Ibadan School of Governance and Public Policy, said the next president has a huge task to reunite Nigerians.

The next admnistration, according to Obasanjo must tackle the divisiness caused by the 2023 polls by ensuring  natonal reconciliation and moral rearmament.

Obasanjo stated that governance in Nigeria now requires thinking outside the box, in order to rescue the country, the economy as well as its huge debt burden.

He criticised the growing debt profile and spending spree of government at all tiers, especially those at the helm of affairs currently, likening the situation to “spending like a drunken sailor”.

The former president also said that next admnistration needs political will to reform the public service turn it into a capability-ready unit and rescue the nation from its current state.

The former president also emphasised the need for national healing and reconciliation to address the anger of Nigerian youths who were let down by the shortcomings of the elections.

He urged the incoming administration to take appropriate steps to bring about healing and assuage the concerns of the citizens.
