Ogun To Demolish Defective Buildings To Prevent Buildings Collapse

Ogun State Government says it will demolish all defective buildings in the State to prevent their imminent collapse.

The state physical planning and urban development commissioner, Olatunji Odunlami, announced the decision while speaking to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The commissioner explained that the demolished buildings were old mud structures, that had outlived their life span, ill maintained, partially abandoned with partially collapsed walls.

He said that his ministry would continue a regular auditing of buildings across the state to safeguard them from constituting nuisance to the society.

He pointed out that some buildings situated in Ijada area, off Olisa road Ijebu- Ode, in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of the State had been pulled down, due to the distressed state of the buildings.

According to the Commissioner, ’’the demolished buildings are old mud structures that had outlived their lifespan, ill-maintained, and partly abandoned, with degenerated roofs and partially collapsed walls’’.
