NUPENG Directs Tanker Drivers, LPG Retailers Petrol Stations Workers to Join NLC Strike

National Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) said the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD; Petrol Stations Workers, PSW; Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers, LPGAR, and all other allied workers in the value chain of petroleum products distribution must comply with the strike from midnight of Tuesday, October 3.

Members of the union being mobilized include petrol tanker drivers, filling station attendants, cooking gas retailers and allied workers.

The union in mobilization notice issued by its National President, William Akporeha, ordered them to join the strike as from the midnight of Tuesday.

The four zonal leaders of the union were directed by the union to mobilized members in their areas for full participation in the strike.

Meanwhile, as the organized labour mobilizes for a Nationwide Strike, the national economic council has urged labour leaders to shelve it.

It reminds labour leaders that any strike at this time, would further damage the economy.

The council, whose members, include the State Governors, asked labour leaders to return to the negotiation table, at the state level.

Governor Caleb Muftwang made the call, while addressing the state house correspondents, after the meeting of the council, presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.

The council, according to him, appreciates the demands of the organized labour, but urged their leaders to exercise more patience.

President Bola Tinubu has been under pressure to reverse his decision to scrap a popular petrol subsidy that had kept fuel prices low but was costly on government finances.

He assured them that President Tinubu in his October 1st Independence Anniversary broadcast, would address some of the demands of the organized labour.
