Petrol Filling Stations Operators Facing Hard Times In Ogun State Capital

The Operators of Petrol Filling Stations in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, are facing hard times, following a sharp drop in patronage by motorists.

Some of them are putting up their filling stations for sale, after sustaining losses in their operations, following the marking up of the pump price of petrol.

Others are considering doing same, while others want to invest in the compressed natural gas facilities.

Most of the operators who spoke with RockCity FM, said they are finding it difficult to pay salaries and meet other operational bills.

For instance, some of the operators, claimed to be recording less than 20 per cent of their previous sales, before the removal of petrol subsidy, which had shot up the pump prices of petrol.

The jump in the pump price of petrol had forced motorists to reduce the volume they are purchasing, while some of them are opting for a taxi ride on some of their trips.

The importation of petrol by some of the marketers had also introduced competition in the pricing of petrol in the city.

While NNPC retail stations sell a litre for n580, some independent marketers are selling for prices ranging from N570 to N600.
