NRC Set to Introduce Mass Transit Express Service

Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is to introduce a mass transit express service between Apapa in Lagos and Ijoko in Ogun State, on its Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail track.

Meanwhile, as the Mass Transit Train Service gears up for operation, it will include stopovers at Mobolaji Johnson and Agege, along with Agbado and Kajola in Ogun State.

Akin Osinowo, the corporation’s director of operations, highlighted that this service would mark the first inter-state mass transit shuttle operating on the standard gauge track.

Additionally, just a few days ago, the corporation introduced a freight service for transporting cargo from the Lagos ports to Ibadan.

In a statement released on Thursday, the NRC outlined its primary objective: to facilitate the commute for travelers between Apapa in Lagos and Kajola in Ogun State.

The inauguration of the rail service in Lagos was officially announced by the Managing Director of NRC, Fidet Okhiria, who was represented by Mr. Akin Osinowo, the Director of Operations.

The Apapa Express train has scheduled stops at Mobolaji Johnson, Agege, Agbado, and will reach its final destination in Kajola.

This route, as highlighted by the corporation’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Mahmud Yakub, marks the NRC’s inaugural inter-state mass transit shuttle, offering greater comfort to passengers compared to the Mass Transit Train Service (MTTS) currently running on the narrow gauge.

Furthermore, passengers are encouraged to purchase their tickets at designated stations prior to boarding the train.
