Nigeria Super Falcons Qualify For the 2024 CAF WAFCON

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have qualified for the 2024 CAF Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after beating Cape Verde 2-1 on the night and 7-1 on aggregate.

Nigeria secured a convincing 5-0 win over the Cape Verdeans when both teams met in the first leg of their second-round qualifier at the Abuja National Stadium on November 30th.

However, goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo helped Nigeria turn around a 1-0 deficit to claim a 2-1 win in Praia.

Substitute Esther Okoronkwo produced a sublime finish to equalize for the Super Falcons, while Rashidat Ajibade came up with the winning goal deep in stoppage time to seal Nigeria’s 100 percent record over Cape Verde.

Following the completion of the encounter, Nigeria became the latest nation to book its spot at next year’s WAFCON.

Others who have booked their spots in the WAFCON are Morocco, South Africa, Algeria, Ghana, Congo DR, Tunisia, Tanzania, Zambia, and Senegal.

The 15th edition of the Wafcon 2024 tournament, which is organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the women’s national teams of Africa, will be hosted in Morocco.

South Africa’s Bayana Bayana are the defending champions. Women’s football has been gaining traction in Africa.

Nigeria’s Football Federation has congratulated the Super Falcons on their qualification to the tournament, saying Not that it was ever in doubt.
