My Wife was my First Girlfriend Ever – Johnny Drille

Eager to ensure that the first woman he loved would become his wife, Johnny Drille, the Nigerian singer, revealed that he had never been in a romantic relationship until he met his wife, Rima Tahini.

Professing his love story during an interview on the Gold Room with Iyabo Ojo show, Drille shared that he first encountered Tahini in 2018 at one of his shows after joining Mavin Records, where she also worked.

Recalling the moment, Drille explained, “The first time I saw her was at one of my shows in 2018. She was sitting in the front row next to a white woman.

At some point, I thought both of them were white. She is mixed race.” The singer emphasized that upon getting to know her, he immediately sensed she was the one for him, expressing that he had never had a girlfriend before meeting her at the age of 28.

Detailing the progression of their relationship, Drille shared, “So, when I was working on another show in Abuja, we got talking.

We met in October, and by January, I knew I was going to marry her. And I told her I was going to marry her. For me, it was a deep conviction.

A lot of people will not believe this, but she was my first girlfriend. I never had a girlfriend before her. I married the first woman that I said ‘I love you’ to, and I always wanted it to be that way; it doesn’t have to be that way for everyone.”

When quizzed about his virginity status at the time of meeting his wife, Drille laughed and playfully evaded the question, showcasing his adeptness at keeping his personal life private.

Notably, the singer successfully maintained the secrecy of his relationship, with the couple discreetly tying the knot in 2022 and only revealing the news in July 2023 on their first anniversary, surprising many fans who were unaware of his marital status.
