Lagos Government Has Introduced Relief Packages for Civil Servants and Residents

Lagos State Government has unveiled packages for civil servants and residents of the state to reduce the pains of food crisis and high level of inflation.

Under the package, civil servants on salary grade level one to 14 would work three days a week, while those on level 15 and 17 for four days.

Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, announcing the package, said those teaching in public schools would maintain five working days, but would receive additional transport support.

Also, residents in the state would enjoy a 25 per cent cut in transport fare on government owned mass transit transport system.

He also said more markets would be opened for the sale of subsidized food, adding that 42 designated markets would open on Sunday.

Soup kitchen/bowls would also be opened across the state’s 44 local government areas to provide one meal daily.

Furthermore, Sanwo-Olu announced a free delivery for pregnant residents across all government-owned hospitals in Lagos.

There is an arrangement for free delivery including cesarean session at government hospitals, he said.

On rising cost of drugs and other pharmaceutical products, the governor promised that his administration will also give rebate on some particular drugs at our state government hospitals.

The governor noted that his administration was also in discussions with various transport unions to reduce their fares.

First is to express empathy with our citizens, We are not unmindful of the situation, as leaders, we must be able to solve socioeconomic problems, Sanwo-Olu said.

He also challenged the private sector to look into what they can do for the citizens by replicating their role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
