Labour Party Crisis Festers, Says BOT Chairman Not Its Financial Member

The crisis in the labour party has continues to fester, as the party disowned the Board of Trustees (BOT) which claimed to have taken it over on Thursday.

National publicity of the party, Obiora Ifoh in a statement late on Thursday, challenged the board to show an evidence of any meeting it held in the past ten years.

Ifoh also claimed that the Board Chairman, O. Ejiofor was not a financial member of the party, while over 90 per cent of members of the board had defected to other parties.

Besides, Ifoh alleged that Ejiofor stepped down as the party’s national chairman since over 20 years ago, and had not been attending the meetings of the party.

Earlier on Thursday, the BOT had announced its take over of the running of the party from Abure, whose election at the Wednesday’s national convention it regarded as a sham.

The board said it was deriving its power to take over the party from Abure on the agreement signed between the party, NLC and TUC, witnessed by INEC last year, on the tenure of the Abure led national working committee.

According to the bot, it was taking over, because the tenure of Abure led working committee had expired, and to avoid a vacuum in the party’s leadership.

He is not even known in his ward and has not paid a single dime as membership dues which qualifies him as a member.

It is surprising that after he was ‘visited’ by some leaders of NLC, he suddenly woke up from his slumber.

The point here is that the Labour Party is not aware of the existence of any Board of Trustees.

Recall that NLC has continued to propose for the reconstitution of the BoT as well as the convocation of the national convention.
