House of Representatives has begun a fresh amendment of the Electoral Act 2022.

The amendment bill sponsored by Honorable Francis Waive, passed through the second reading, during the plenary of the house on Wednesday.

The bill is seeking the holding of the presidential, house of reps, senatorial, house of assembly, and national assembly polls, on the same day.

Other provisions in the bill are the electronic transmission of poll results, as well as reviewing the voter register every ten years by the independent national electoral commission.

Francis Waive proposes conducting general elections on the same day to save resources and time for the country.

He also expressed concerns over the gaps in the current Electoral Act 2022.

The proposed amendment also aims to mandate the electronic transmission of results and impose hefty fines on individuals who file frivolous petitions, intending to reduce the number of cases brought to court.

He also argued that a review of the voter register every 10 years would be a good starting point.
