FUNAAB Expresses Concern over the Deplorable Condition of the only Road

Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has expressed concern over the deplorable condition of the only road leading to the institution in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

It calls for government’s intervention to make the road motor able to reduce the harrowing experience of motorists making use of it.

The university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. C. O. Ikeobi, spoke on the issue, while receiving the management of Rockcity FM led by its Chief Executive Director, Dr. Niran Malaolu, in his office.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, standing in for the Vice Chancellor, who was out of the state on urgent assignments said, the university management had made presentation on the deplorable state of the road, to the appropriate bodies, to come to their aid.

According to him, the presentation was made to the Federal Road Management Agency (FERMA), the Ogun state government, as well as top federal and state government officials.

He said even though, the maintenance of the road should not be the concern of the university, it had been using its meagre resources to patch the road up to a section of Abeokuta-Ibadan road.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor also spoke on the continued relevance of the university in term of research, teaching and community engagement.

He cited the contribution of 10,000 hectares farm of the institution and its massive dam, whose water is now being reticulated for food production.

Earlier, Dr. Malaolu, had explained that the visit was aimed at promoting a synergy between the town and gown.

The Rockcity FM Chief Executive Officer said there was the need to further educate members of the public on what FUNAAB has to offer for a meaningful symbiotic relationship with Nigerians.
