Four Looters Feared Dead, 44 Arrested As 24 Hour Curfew Takes Off In Adamawa

Forty four persons have been arrested during the crackdown on looters by security forces in Adamawa state on Sunday, four dead.

Spokesman of the state police command, Suleiman Nguroje said the number of casualties not yet ascertained as anti-homicide cultists are still moving rounding the sites of the attack.

But witnesses said four of the suspected looters died from stray bullets fired by security forces after the looters resisted the tear gas fired at them.

Already, Governor Ahmadu Finitiri had imposed a 24 hour curfew on Yola, the state capital and other parts of the state, to contain the situation.

The curfew was imposed after hundreds of youths invaded large warehouses including that of the national emergency management agency, where grains were stored in Yola and Numan.

The youths broke into the warehouses and also looted shops and some residential homes before security forces, including police and troops were deployed to Chade them away.
