Former Nigerian UK Envoy Wants Hostile Power Succession by Governors to End in Ogun

Former Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Tunji Sarafa Ishola has pleaded with Ogun state’s political elite to embrace politics of continuity.

He laments over the hostile succession of power by governors in the state, saying it is undermining the development potential of the state.

The diplomat spoke on the issue on Friday, at a grand reception, organized in his honor by the Egbas at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Complex, Abeokuta, for his remarkable achievements during his tenure as Nigeria High Commissioner.

According to Ishola, Ogun state today is too politically divided, adding that what it required for sustainable development was politics of continuity, because of its enormous potentials.

He urged traditional rulers who appear as the only permanent feature, after the exit of governors, to end the hostile succession between one governor to the other in Ogun state.

Ambassador Ishola thanked Senator Ibikunle Amosun for nominating him for the post of a high commissioner, and former President Buhari for believing in him.

The Chairman of the reception committee, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland, said Ambassador Ishola had set a standard which would be difficult to fill by his successors.

In his goodwill message, Governor Dapo Abiodun described Ambassador Ishola as an astute public servant.

Other dignitaries who sent goodwill messages were Senator Gbenga Daniel, Senator Amosun, and the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

Dignitaries who graced the occasion, included the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola; the Oshile of Oke Ona Egba, Oba Dapo Tejuosho, as well as Aare Remi Bakare, and Chief (Mrs.) Bola Obasanjo.
