Buhari Accuses Governors Of Tampering With Councils’ Allocation

President Muhammadu Buhari has accused the state governors of tampering with the statutory allocations of the local governments from the federation account.

The trend, according to the president, is retarding development at the grassroots level.

Buhari accused the governors on Thursday at an event hosted for members of the Senior Executive Course 44 (2022) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The president was worried that governors would release only a half of allocation they received on behalf of the local governments to their chairmen, who in turn pilfer the public resources.

He said the governors’ attitude portrayed the sort of corrupt practices perpetrated in dispensing resources meant for local councils’ administrations.
