The number of petrol stations being put up for sale in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital is on the rise, due to the low patronage, following the sharp rise in the price of petrol.

According to investigations by Rockcity FM, more than ten filling stations had changed hands in the past weeks in the city, since the pump price of petrol was jerked up to about N600 per litre.

The price of the filling stations being put up for sale depends on location and facilities.

The major player in the buying of the filling stations, according to the investigations are the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) or its franchise.

Some of the affected filling stations already sold or in the process of being sold are in different parts of the city, including Asero, Lafenwa, Oke Ilewo, Olobe at Idi Aba, Oke Ijeun, Onikolobo, Akin Olugbade and Obantoko.

Since the price of petrol sharply increased, the number of vehicles on roads has drastically reduced, while those still putting theirs on the road had reduced the litres of petrol that they are buying.
