DHQ Releases Identities of Army Commander, 16 Soldiers Killed In Delta Ambush

The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) has released the identities and pictures of seventeen soldiers, killed in an ambush by youths while responding to a distress call in Delta state.

They included those of the commander of the army 181 amphibious battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ali Mohammed; as well as Majors S. Shafa, and D. Obi and Captain U. Zakari.

Others are staff sergeant, corporals, lance corporals and privates.

Meanwhile, the army has accused residents of Okuama community where the soldiers were killed of resorting to propaganda to cover up the killers.

Army spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement said resorting to propaganda in the face of gruesome murder of troops on peace mission was callous and totally condemnable.

Nwachukwu also said it as a clear indication that the killings was a communally orchestrated attack against legitimate forces.

The army warns that those peddling falsehood about its operation in the community are complicit in the killing and must be ready to face the wrath of the law.
