Crisis in Ondo APC Persists as Lawmakers Ask Deputy Governor to Tender Resignation Letter

Crisis in the Ondo State All Progressive Congress (APC) has continued to fester, despite President Tinubu’s intervention.

On Tuesday, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, asked the Deputy Governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa, to tender an unsigned resignation letter to the House.

The Speaker made the call, amidst calls by some party leaders in the state, pressurizing the House to proclaim a Deputy Governor as the acting governor in the continued absence of Governor Akeredolu from the state.

But the Speaker, presenting the report of the agreement reached during Tinubu’s reconciliation meeting, said the deputy governor’s resignation letter was part of the agreement.

He added the agreement also stipulates that the house suspends its planned impeachment against the deputy governor, who is also expected to withdraw all his suits in court on the crisis.

The Speaker also said the agreement called for the maintenance of status quo in the Ondo State APC the state House of Assembly leadership, and the State Executive Council.

Also, the Speaker said Ayedatiwa would continue to function as the deputy governor and not the acting governor.

The crisis in Ondo state APC started after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu returned from a medical trip to Germany last September 7, and is yet to return to the state.

All efforts to reach the deputy governor on the telephone were not successful as his phone line indicated busy while the text message sent to him was not replied to at the time of filing this report.

But one of his political associates,  who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Aiyedatiwa was not pleased with the decision of the Assembly as it was against  the resolution reached at Friday’s meeting

You can see that the deputy governor was not in the state yet. He is waiting for the House to declare him the acting governor before coming.

But I don’t know what will happen next on the matter because the House has not kept its own part of the ‘deal’.
