An Oyo State high court sitting in Ogbomosho has dethroned Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso.

The state government had announced Olaoye, a Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and based in the United States of America (USA), as the new Soun and the kingmakers of the town subsequently installed him on September 8, 2023.

The court declared his appointment as illegal, and ordered the Ogbomoso kingmakers to begin a fresh selection process to elect a new Soun.

Justice k. Adedokun gave the directive on Wednesday while ruling in an application filed one of the candidates for the throne, Prince Kabir Laoye.
