Armed Policemen Takes Over National Headquarters Of Labour Party

Armed men of the Nigerian Police Force have taken over the National Headquarters of the Labour Party in Abuja, amidst leadership crisis in the party.

Police moved in after armed thugs invaded the National Secretariat and vandalized part of it.

Seven members of the factionalized National Working Committee of the party, acting on the order of an Abuja High Court, replaced the National Chairman, Julius Abure, with the National Vice Chairman, Lamidi Apapa.

The Abuja Court had ordered Abure and three other members of the National Working Committee to stop paradng themselves as national officers of the party until it determine a suit filed by aggrieved faction of the party.

Apampa addressing Newsmen at the end of the faction’s meeting, said Abure was removed in line with the order of the court and they support Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the party.

The aggrieved Labour Party chieftains had alleged that Abure and the other restrained officers forged documents of an Abuja High Court to illegally substitute candidates for the 2023 polls.

But Abure at a different meeting for a on Thursday, accused the aggrieved members who broke into the National Secretariat of being agents of the All Progressive Congress (APC), to frustrate the ongoing litigation.

Also on Thursday, 32 State Chairmen of the party met in Benin City and declared support for Abure, accusing the opposition of using bad eggs in Labour Party to destabilize the party.
