Gang Robbing Taxi Cab Passengers in Abeokuta, Arrested In Ogun State Capital

A driver using his taxi cab along with members of his gang, to rob passengers of their belongings in Abeokuta, has been arrested in the Ogun State capital.

Ogun State security outfit, the So-safe Corps, says it arrested the driver, identified as Kehinde Ogunlate, along with his alleged accomplices at Itoko, Ita Morin and Adedotun Axis of the city.

Other members of the gang arrested were Taoreed Adeosun, Funmilayo Adeosun, Dele Olonade and Yemi Ayoola.

The Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, Said Kehinde and Ayoola usually used their taxi cab to rob passengers, collected their phones, and hand them over to Dele Olonade.

The commander explained that they usually drove their victims to safer places for easy escape, to avoid arrest, until they were sighted last Friday, by a patrol of So-safe corps, acting on a tip off.

According to him, the patrol tracked the taxi cab driver, who initially tried to escape, but tracked them, and effected their arrest.

He said that a female member of the gang, Funmilayo Adeosun picked one of the stolen phones from her husband, Taoreed Adeosun, and sold it to untraceable person.

The So-safe Commander said the suspects had been handed over to the police Swift Weapons and Tactical Team (SWAT) at Magbon in Abeokuta.

According to Ganzallo, the said Kehinde Ogunlate and one Yemi Ayoola usually “use the taxi to rob passengers.”

He stated that the suspects would collect their phones and other items, which they would later hand over to Kehinde to sell them to one Olonade Dele.

Ganzallo noted that “the one-chance robber” and the rest of the suspected gang members initially escaped arrest, but were later apprehended at Itoko, Ita-Morin and Adedotun areas of the state capital.

They include: Taoreed Adeosun; his wife, Funmilayo Adeosun, Ayoola Yemi, Kehinde Ogunlate and Dele Olonade.

“The apprehended suspects confessed that robbing passengers is their profession and after any successful operation, they drive the victims to a safer place for easy escape of their team.

“They also established that Funmilayo Adeosun picked one of the stolen phones from her husband, Taoreed and sold it to an untraceable buyer,” Ganzallo explained.

He listed the items recovered to include the taxi, 16 memory cards and mobile phones.

He added that the suspects and the exhibits recovered from them had been transferred to the SWAT office of the Nigeria Police Force in Magbon, Abeokuta for further investigation and likely prosecution.
