Governor Dapo Abiodun has congratulated the new speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, for applauding the house for its exemplary change of leadership without rancor.

He said the lawmakers have the rights to decide who would lead them in a democracy.

Abiodun also said this was not the first time in Nigeria that the House of Assembly would change its leadership.

The governor spoke on the issue on Tuesday, while receiving the new speaker and 19 members of the assembly at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele said his administration did not interfere in the process of impeachment of the former speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, and the election of Elemide.

He, however, assured that the executive arm of government in the state will continue to stick to the concept of the separation of powers and the rule of law, in its relationship with the assembly.

According to Elemide, the assembly would lobby the executive and also assert itself whenever it is necessary.

He promised to always be the mouthpiece of members of the legislature.
