5 Dead, 12 Injured In a Fatal Auto-Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Five persons have died, 12 others injured in a fatal auto-crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State.

The crash occurred at 6.15 am on Sunday near the four square camp.

However, the accident involved three vehicles, an unmarked pick-up van; a Truck marked KMC 810 ZB, and a bus marked TMA 244 XA.

Meanwhile, the State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Anthony Ugha, announced this in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Chief Route Commander Florence Okpeh in Abeokuta.

According to the commander, the truck developed a tire burst, and its driver lost control by its drive, leading to a crash.

The tanker after crashing occupied the whole stretch of the road, and other vehicles ran into it.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) commander has asked other motorists in the state to avoid usage of substandard tires and respect the approved speed limit, especially during the current rainy season.

The sector commander sympathised with families of the victims, advising them to visit the Ogunmakin Unit of the FRSC for more information on the accident.

MEANWHILE, FRSC has confirmed that one of its personnel was crushed by a Mack Truck which failed brake around Orile area of Lagos.

The agency said the deceased officer was attending to distressed Volkswagen vehicles when the accident occurred, crushing him to the vehicle he was attending to.

A statement by the spokesperson for Lagos State sector Command, Olabisi Sanusi, said immediately the accident occurred, the driver of the Mack Truck jumped down and took to his heels.

Sanusi said the corpse of the personnel had been deposited in the public mortuary, Yaba. He added that a manhunt had been launched against the fleeing killer driver.
