116 Cultists, Including 46 Girls, Arrested During Initiation Event in Ogun

One hundred and sixteen cultists have been arrested at Ifo axis of Ogun State, by the police in a major clampdown on cultists in the state.

Those arrested, included 70 males and 46 females.

They were picked up at 1 a.m. on Saturday, during an initiation ceremony in a hotel at Ibogun, near Ifo, to mark the twentieth anniversary of Aye Confraternity.

Police Anti-Cultism Squad and other policemen from Ifo area command, following a tip off, swooped on about three hundred cultists attending the ceremony.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said 114 out of them were arrested, and had been transferred to the State Command Headquarters at Eleweran in Abeokuta.

Items recovered from the scene, included four axes, seven cutlasses, initiation invitation cards, banners, symbols of the cult group and illicit drugs.

She said the State Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu ordered the raid as part of his promise to rid the state of cultists.

The police chief ordered all police formations to be on the lookout for cultists in their areas.
