An early morning auto crash at the Kara axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State resulted in the death of ten passengers, with seven others sustaining injuries.

The accident involved a passenger bus, marked FKY 898 YF, colliding with a truck that was negotiating a turning near the interchange in the axis.

Chief Route Commander Florence Okpeh, spokesperson of the state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), reported that the accident occurred at around 5 A.M. on Tuesday.

She attributed the cause of the accident to the speeding driver of the bus.

Expressing concern over the crash, the state FRSC Sector Commander, Anthony Ugah, stated that he was troubled by the incident, emphasizing that it was avoidable and unfortunate.

Emergency responders promptly transported the injured victims to the hospital for medical attention, while the deceased individuals were taken to Idera Morgue in Sagamu.

In line with the statement, “FRSC operatives from Mowe unit Command conducted a rescue operation on Ibadan-Lagos road around Kara Turning (Towards Interchange).”

Providing details about the incident that occurred at about 0500hrs early Tuesday morning, the crash involved two vehicles with the following specifics:

Eighteen male adults were involved, with seven sustaining injuries, and ten tragically recorded dead from the crash.

Attributing the cause of the fatal crash to excessive speed, which led to a loss of control, the bus collided with the tipper that was about to negotiate the turning.

Expressing distress over the unfortunate incident, CC Anthony Uga, the Sector Commander, emphasized that the fatal crash could have been avoided with necessary precautions in place.

In light of the tragedy, the FRSC commander advised motorists to take a 15-minute rest after every four hours behind the wheel.
